The next morning, they went to Donghae by bus. Then they got on the biggest ship there. They enjoyed seeing the blue sea from the ship. They landed at a small port near Geumgangsan. Then they walked up Geumgangsan and enjoyed themselves.

B-There are three kinds of bees. Most bees are small worker bees. There are also a few male bees. They are a little bigger than worker bees. The male bees don't work. The biggest bee is the queen. The queen stays at home and lays eggs. So the worker bees feed her.

One day, a crow was flying across a road. She looked down and saw a crane. The crane was walking along gracefully.
"She looks really beautiful," thought the crow. "I hope I can walk gracefully like the crane." The crow flew down to the road and started walking behind the crane. The crow tried to copy the crane's wonderful walk.
The crane turned around. "What are you doing?" asked the crane.
"Don't be angry," replied the crow. "I'm just trying to learn to walk like you."
"Foolish bird!" said the crane. "You're a crow. Walk like crow!"
The crow didn't listen to the crane's advice. She kept trying to walk like a crane, but she never learned the crane's walk. She even forgot how to walk like a crow!
Lesson 8 Let's Enjoy the Full Moon

A: This Kimchi is very hot.
B: Don't you like Kimchi?
A: I am not sure. I think it is too hot for me.

B: It's gochujang. It's red pepper paste.
C: It is a little hot but very tasty.

"Yes, we have Thanksgiving," said Sally.
"We eat turkey for Thanksgiving. Are there any special foods for Chuseok?" asked Tim.
"Of course. We eat songpyeon. Why don't you try some?" said Nari's mother. They enjoyed the songpyeon.
Nari's father said, "At Chuseok, we Koreans visit our family graves. We also enjoy the full moon in the evening."
Sally said, "That's great. Can we go ut and enjoy the full moon now?"
"Sure. Let's go," said Nari.
Nari, Sally, and Tim went out and enjoyed the full moon.
Lesson 9 How Did Football Begin?

A: What kinds of sports do you like, Uram?
B: I like all kinds of sports, but I like football the best.
A: Do you mean soccer?
B: Right.
A: We have a different football game in America.
B: I know. It's American football.
A: How many players do you need to play soccer?
B: We need eleven players to make a team.

A: Hello?
B: May I speak to Tim, please?
A: This is he.
B: Hi, Tim. This is Uram.
A: Hi, Uram. What's up?
B: Would you like to join our football team?
A: Yes, I'd love to. When do you meet?
B: Can you come this Saturday? We meet at 3 p.m.

Boys, men, and even women play football everywhere. They play it at schools, in parks, and on quiet streets.
How did football begin? No one knows. Where did it start? Many people believe that it started in England hundreds of years ago. The men of one village tried to kick a ball to the middle of the other village. The men of the other village tried to do the same. They did it just for fun. All the men in the villages played! Sometimes hundreds of people played at one time. The match went on all day, and sometimes even for two days.
Today football is very different. There are eleven players on each team. They play for about an hour and a half. They take a break in the middle of the game.
Lesson 10
The Earth Is Our Home

A: What a nice park!
B: Yes, it really is.
A: Look at the children. They are playing under the trees.
B: They shouldn't break off the branches.
A: You're right. Trees keep the air fresh.
B: Right. Trees are very important to our life.

B: Sally, what did you do with your old ones?
C: I took them to a recycling center.

My friends and I went to the park near our school. We went there to take part in the clean-up campaign. We collected a lot of trash. We were surprised that there was so much trash.
People say that the earth is our home. I asked myself, "Is it a nice home?" I also asked myself, "Are we treating the earth well?" I don't think that it is a nice home. And I don't think that we are treating it well. We must treat the earth well. Then, it will be a nice home.
A lot of thick smoke and bad gas are coming from factories and cars. These things make the air dirty. Then, dirty air makes us sick.
Also, a lot of dirty water is coming from factories and houses. Where does this dirty water go? It goes into rivers. Of course, fish can't live in dirty rivers. We can't swim in them, either.
I want to breathe fresh air, and swim in clean rivers. I also want to walk through clean and beautiful parks. I really want to live in a nice home.

Where Is the Post Office?
Dialog 1
A: Excuse me. Is there a bookstore nearby?
B: Yes, there is. There's one next to the post office.
A: How far is it from here?
B:It is only two blocks away.
A: How can I get there?
B: Go straight two blocks and turn left. It is on your right.
A: Thanks.
B: You're welcome.
Dialog 2
A: What would you like to do during Christmas vacation?
B: I'd like to visit a historical site in Korea.
Can you suggest a good one?
A: How about visiting Gyeongju?
B: Do you think Gyeongju is a good place to visit?
A: Sure. It was the capital city of the Shilla Dynasty for a thousand years. You can see many historical sites there.
B: Sounds very interesting.
I will ask my parents to take me there.

Tim and Sally went to Gyeongju during Christmas vacation. They enjoyed sightseeing all day long in Gyeongju. They were surprised that there were so many historical sites in one city. Indeed, Gyeongju was a nice place to visit!
Sally and Tim were really impressed with Seokguram and Bulguksa. At Bulguksa, they bought some postcards. They wanted to send them to their friends in New York.
The next day, they went out to find the post office. While they were looking for the post office, they met a college student.

Christopher Columbus lived in Italy. He sailed to many places. He wanted to sail to Asia. In those days, people called Asia "the Indies." They traveled east to get there. They went across land and water. The trip was long and very dangerous. Columbus had a different idea. He wanted to sail west! Many people said, "That's crazy. The earth is flat. You'll sail off the edge of the world. You'll never come back." Columbus didn't listen. He was sure that the world was round.
The King and Queen of Spain gave Columbus money and three ships. In 1492, Columbus sailed west. After a month at sea, the sailors wanted to turn back. Columbus didn't listen to them. "Sail on," he said. After two months, Columbus saw land.
Columbus thought he was on an island in the Indies. He called the people there "Indians." He thought, "I discovered a new route to Asia." But he discovered something much more important. It was a new world to the Europeans.
