Hi, Mike. What are you watching?
Hi. I am watching the soccer game between Italy and France. Do you like soccer?
Of course, I do.
Then let's watch this game together.
But I can't understand English very well.
Watching English TV programs will help you improve your English.
You may be right.

Dialog 2

A : Hi, Cathy. Would you do me a favor?
B : Sure, if I can. What can I do for you?
A : I want to write back to my friend in America.
So, can you help me write a letter in English?
B : Of course. Why don't you write something in English and bring it to me? I'll check it for you.
A : Thank you. When can I bring it to you?
B : How about 3:30 tomorrow?
A : Sounds good.

Let's Read

After lunch, Yumi and Minsu enjoyed talking with their new teacher, Mr. Baker. "People are saying our earth is getting smaller today," said Yumi.
Mr. Baker asked, "Do you know why people are saying that?"
"Yes, I do," said Minsu. "Last year, my father went to Los Angeles by plane. It took him just half a day. What if he sailed across the Pacific Ocean? It might take many weeks."
"That's right," said Yumi. "In addition, these days, we know what happens on the other side of the world in a few hours. Also we can reach anyone all over the world in no time."
"As our world is getting smaller, people from all over the world are coming closer," said Mr. Baker. "But how can we understand them?"
"Well, we must learn their languages," said Minsu.
"But we can't learn every language," said Mr. Baker.
Yumi said, smiling, "That's why we learn English."
Mr. Baker added, "You're right. Today, English is an international language. It helps us understand our neighbors in this small world."
