The World of Nature

We live in a beautiful world. All around us we see the sky and clouds, sea and rivers, and many plants and animals. This is the world of nature. We humans are part of this world. We share it with many other living things.

The world of nature gives what living things need. Plants need sunlight, water, air, and soil to grow. Animals and humans must have a place to live, food to eat, air to breathe, and water to drink. We need the sun for its light and warmth.

In nature, all plants and animals depend on each other. For example, bees and flowers need each other. As a bee gets nectar for honey from a flower, it carries pollen to other flower.

All living things, even the smallest, have a role to play in the world of nature. Tiny insects eat dead things and keep the world clean. They also serve as food for many types of animals. Nature is balanced because as old things die, new ones are born to take their places. There is always about the same number of plants and animals on earth. So we should help keep this balance of nature.

Nature existed long before humans. The frist humans lived in a natural way. They gathered fruits, berries, and roots to eat. They did not cut stones into tools, or change or control nature.

Later, humans began to learn how to control nature. They made tools to plant and gather food, and they made weapons to hunt animals. They learned to use fire for warmth and cooking, and they also learned to raise animals and build shelters.

Today we are still controlling nature. We mine the earth, explore the sea, cut forests, build cities, and run large farms and factories. We humans have not only explored the earth but have begun to explore the moon and the planets. We are always looking for new ways to understand and use nature. When we do this, we should never forget that we must keep the balance of nature.
