Why is the time in Seoul different from that in Beijing?
Because the sun rises one hour earlier in Seoul.

Sure, it is because the Earth rotates to the east.
How long does the Earth take to make one complete rotation?
24 hours.
I see. Is that why one day equals 24 hours?

A : Would you like to play some computer games?
B : I'd love to, but I feel too sleepy.
A : Didn't you sleep well?
B : No. I got up very early to call my grandparents.
A : Where do they live?
B : Chicago.
A : What is the time difference between Chicago and Seoul?
B : Fifteen hours in winter, but fourteen hours in summer.
A : Why is the time different in summer?
B : Because we use daylight savings time in the USA.

Minsu asked his English teacher, Mr. Baker, about world time. Mr. Baker explained, "Real time is very confusing. If it is noon in Seoul, for example, it is really 12:02 p.m. in Chuncheon. So for convenience, we divide the Earth into twenty-four time zones. Do you follow me?"
"Yes, I do. It's because the Earth takes twenty-four hours to make one complete rotation," said Minsu.
Mr. Baker went on, "If you travel from west to east, add one hour to your local time in each time zone."
"Then, I'll ask a question. Seoul is one time zone east of Beijing. What time is it in Seoul if it is 9 a.m. in Beijing? You may use this world time map," said Mr. Baker.
"Let me see. It's 10 a.m.," answered Minsu, looking at the map.
"Good. I'll ask you one more question. When it is 1:58 in Seoul, what time is it in Anyang?" asked Mr. Baker.
"Well, I don't know what you mean," said Minsu.
"It's two to two, too. It's just for fun," said Mr. Baker, smiling.
